Aaj tera jagrata mata lata mangeshkar.mp3 is a song written and sung by Lata Mangeshkar and composed by Roshan. The lyrics of the Hindi song written by Sahir Ludhianvi and Faruk Badayuni. It was included in the 1964 Bollywood movie Gumnaam, which was based on a French novel Les Hommes Qui N'aiment Pas Les Femmes (1952) by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, who also penned the novels D'entre Les Morts (1960) and Plein Soleil (1964). The film was directed by S. S. Vasan and starred Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Raj Kumar, Anwar Hussain, Pran, Keshto Mukherjee and Johnny Walker in the lead roles. The music of Gumnaam was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. The song was later recorded in different languages including Tamil ("Thottatha Pottu Thottatha") by Lata Mangeshkar in the 1966 movie "Aayirathil Oruvan", also composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. The song is picturised on Meena Kumari, who is an aspiring classical dancer who dreams of becoming a famous dancer one day. In the movie, she performs a solo dance recital at a party in a palace where a Maharaja's son watches it and is said to be instantly attracted to her. The song was picturised on Meena Kumari in a green Saree while she dances. The song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the key of F Minor while the music remains same as other version. The other version is sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the same key while composition remains same as well albeit with different lyrics by Faruk Badayuni. The other version was released only in the CD format, which was available from HMV online store. This was the only song sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the movie, as she was warned by Meena Kumari not to have a duet with her as she felt that they would compete against each other. Lata Mangeshkar had a very brief role in this movie, but her presence in several scenes is prominently noticed.
